Let me start your day with my recap on the CrossFit open 17.2 because we all know you want to read about CrossFit and my struggle during the workout to start your FriYay :)!
Oh 17.2.....how happy — but frustrated — I am with you.
Here is the workout that was released Thursday, March 2nd to be completed by Monday, March 6th at 8:00 p.m.:
12:00 AMRAP (as many rounds/reps as possible)
2 rounds
50ft dumbbell front rack lunge (35#)
16 toes to bar
8 dumbbell power cleans (35#)
then
2 rounds
50ft dumbbell front rack lunge (35#)
16 bar muscle ups
8 dumbbell power cleans (35#)

I took on attempt one of 17.2 at CrossFit Rage in Pennsylvania on Friday, March 3rd. It was a late start, 7:00 p.m., compared to when I usually workout, but I was excited to be going side-by-side with Regina. I, also had Brendan there as my judge and Maria there supporting me the whole time so it made it feel like I was still at CrossFit Harrisonburg. Going into this first attempt, I really didn't have a plan because I wasn't sure how I would withstand 32 bar muscle ups or if I could move fast enough to get through them all. I wanted to obviously go as hard as I could, do my best and aim to get back to the toes to bar (5th round)!

Just like 17.1, I started out feeling pretty good and was to my first set of muscle ups by 3:45. My first set of muscle ups went pretty well; I finished those and the next set of cleans by 7:07. I was on my second set of muscle ups by 8:00, finishing 5 by 9:00 and then I hit that threshold. I was able to maintain singles every :06-:10 seconds with a lot of staring at the bar, but it was just not enough to get back to those toes 2 bar. I was able to finish all the cleans after the second set of muscle ups, giving me a score of 136 reps and a tie-break time of 11:57 (this is when I finished the power cleans after the second round of muscle ups).
I was not and am still not disappointed with my score, but I was sure I could make it back into those toes to bar. Also, a year ago I would never had made it through all the muscle ups, so I chalked that up as a success!
... But it was redo time on Monday afternoon (just to make sure I gave it everything I had on Friday.) I had to try to make it into the 150s, right?! I had broken down my video from Friday and had a plan to stay on track and I was on track until that second set of muscle ups, again. At that point on Monday, my body was saying "NO!" I tried my hardest to keep on track and listen to my training pals when they said 5-4-3-2-1-GO, but it didn't happen for me this go around.

So the verdict was in, and I entered my score from Friday of 136 reps, but at least I got some muscle up practice in during the second attempt! Still working on that muscle endurance for those gymnastic movements but it is coming along!
After week two of the CrossFit open, I am 26 spots out of the top 100 in the Mid-Atlantic region. Let's see what the next three workouts bring. I plan to give it all I've got!
Hope you all have a great day and good luck to those tackling 17.3.
